First Prison
The first prison was built in 1790 it was located in Pennsylvania, it was the first of the United States institute solitary confinement. Most of the 1800 prisons were groups of adults and children, men and women, and petty thieves and murderers. Physical punishment and mutilation were common, and abuse of the prisoners by the guards and overseers.
